Pulmolan is a mucolytic medication prescribed to treat acute and chronic respiratory diseases, accompanied by the release of viscous mucus such as acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma difficulty with expectoration, bronchiectasis.

General information
Pulmolan has a secretomotor and secretolytic effect, that is makes expectoration liquid and assists its outcome. It acts due to stimulation of serous gland cells of the bronchial mucosa, reduces the viscosity of sputum and its adhesive properties. Increases motor activity of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium, increases mucociliary transport of sputum.
Take the medicine exactly as it was prescribed by your doctor. Generally for adults and children over 12 years Pulmolan is prescribed by 1 tab three times a day in the first 2-3 days, and in next few days by one tab two times a day. For children dose should be corrected depending on age and weight. The tablets should be taken orally after a meal with a plenty of water.
Caution needed for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Do not take this medicine if you are at first trimester of pregnancy, hypersensitive to ambroxol or other ingredients of Pulmolan. Cautiousness is important when it is prescribed to patients with II and III trimester of pregnancy, breastfeeding patients, or ones with renal or hepatic insufficiency.
Possible side effect
When Pulmolan is used for long use at high doses you can get heartburn, pain in stomach, nausea and vomiting. Other side effects include skin rash, urticaria , angioedema, allergic contact dermatitis. anaphylactic reaction type is rare.
Drug interactions
This medicine should not be used in combination with antitussive remedies which complicate removal of sputum. Simultaneous administration with antitussive medicines leads to difficulty expectoration and reduced coughing. Ambroxol increases penetration of amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, and doxycycline in bronchial secretion. Ambroxol is compatible with medicines which inhibit birth activity.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Don't take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting , diarrhea, dyspepsia , pain in stomach. If you got such symptoms immediate aid includes: inducing vomiting, gastric lavage in first 1-2 hours after taking the medication, taking fat-containing products. Contact your doctor and seek for medical help if you got symptoms of overdose.
Store the medicine at room temperature below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
